If you’ve ever tried to list a product on Amazon and been told “You need approval to sell this brand”, you know how frustrating ungating can be. Invoices, waiting for approval, potential rejections — it’s a pain.

But there’s a shortcut that works more often than you’d think.

The Mobile App Method

When you search for a gated product on the desktop version of Seller Central, Amazon shows you a gate — “You need approval to sell in this category” or “This product requires approval” — and asks you to submit invoices.

But here’s the thing: the Amazon Seller mobile app doesn’t always enforce the same restrictions. If you try to add the exact same ASIN to your inventory through the mobile app, it will often let you straight through — automatically ungating you for that brand with no invoices required.

How It Works — Step by Step

1. Download the Amazon Seller app (iOS or Android) if you haven’t already
2. Log into your seller account
3. Tap the menu and go to “Add a Product”
4. Search for the ASIN of the product you’re gated for
5. Tap on the product and try to “List this product”
6. If it lets you through — congratulations, you’re now ungated for that brand. You can now list products from that brand on desktop too
7. If it still shows a gate — this particular brand requires proper ungating via invoices

Why Does This Work?

The mobile app and the desktop website don’t always share the same restriction logic. The mobile app tends to have less strict gating enforcement for certain brands and categories. Once you’ve successfully added a product from a brand to your inventory through any method, Amazon registers you as approved for that brand across all platforms.

So even though you bypassed the gate through the mobile app, the ungating sticks — you’ll be able to list that brand on desktop, mobile, everywhere.

Tips for Auto Ungating

• Try the mobile app FIRST — before spending time and money getting invoices, always check if the mobile app will let you through. It takes 30 seconds
• Try different ASINs — if one ASIN from a brand doesn’t auto-ungate, try another ASIN from the same brand. Different products can have different restriction levels
• Check regularly — Amazon updates their gating periodically. A brand that was fully gated last month might auto-ungate today
• It works for categories too — some category-level gates can also be bypassed through the mobile app, not just brand gates
• Don’t list if you don’t have stock — once you’ve confirmed you can list, you don’t have to actually send stock in immediately. The ungating will remain active

What If It Doesn’t Work?

Not every brand can be auto-ungated through the mobile app. The bigger, more heavily protected brands (think Apple, Nike, LEGO) will still require proper ungating with invoices.
